no sound today - worked fine yesterday

hello. so i turn on my comp today to see that there is a red x through the speaker icon and also the icon for sound card stuff is not present in system tray. i have tryed reinstalling twice driver twice. it was recommened from microsoft for error cord 39 in device manager. i also have a yellow ! on my x plsoion in device manager. i had tryed unintalling it from there and restarting and scanned for hardware changes. also when i try to update driver > browse comp > pick from list > check HDA x-plaosion 7.1 i get a msg:

windows encountered a problem installing the driver sowftware for your device. windows cannot load the driver for this software. the driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39)

reinstall driver didnt work :( what other solutions do you suggest to try ?
