The way the X-Meridian sounds
Both through s/pdif and through my upgraded pre-outs the sound of this card is noticeably different from an X-Fi Prelude. FWIW I am delivering sound to a pair of fairly detailed 1976 Pioneer speakers. Strictly speaking of music, there are pros and cons to both sounds. I love both cards a lot. I don't know that much about sound cards, so I was curious if anyone could explain some of the less obvious differences.

Re: The way the X-Meridian sounds
The X-Meridian 7.1 was a very well received soundcard when released. It quickly become very popular with the HTPC crowds.
This card was also one of the first ones to be upgraded with the LM4562NA. There are a few that have upgraded them beyond simple mods going with clock upgrades, cap upgrades and high end opamps.
I still have one in my reference set...
